Empowering Young People By: James Yoka Ekip
As we count down the hours to bid farewell to 2024 and welcome a brand-new year in 2025, I find myself reflecting deeply on the journey I’ve undertaken since my birth in August 1968. From starting my educational journey in 1977 at Mun Catholic Mission, Dei District, WHP, to formal employment, self-employment, and now at over 50 years old, I look forward to the future by understanding the lives of those past 60, 70, and 80 years old. Imagining the challenges ahead, including old age, I recall King Solomon's words, “Life is Vanity of Vanities.”

SO, MY NEW YEARS RESOLUTION IS;
TO SHARE MY LIFE EXPERIENCE, MY TIME, & RESOURCES TO EMPOWER YOUNG PEOPLE TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL (TO LIVE CONTENTED & HAPPY LIFE)
- On my website, I will share my personal journey in detail, including the lessons I’ve learned from both successes and failures. My hope is that by being open about my experiences, young people can gain insights that will help them make better decisions in their own lives. I aim to provide practical advice, motivational stories, and real-life examples that highlight the importance of perseverance, resilience, and positive thinking..
- I will create multiple channels on my website where young people can reach out to me for guidance and support. This could include forums, Q&A sessions, and direct contact options. I am committed to offering my time to listen, advise, and mentor those who seek it. My goal is to build a supportive community where young people feel valued and understood..
- I will work to inspire other successful senior Western Highlanders to share their life stories and experiences. By compiling these narratives, we can create a rich tapestry of wisdom that young people can draw from. This collective knowledge will serve as a powerful resource for learning and inspiration..
- I will invest time in recording our common traditional history, including our cultural heritage, customs, and significant events that have shaped our community. This effort will involve interviews with elders, archival research, and storytelling. By preserving this history, I hope to instill a sense of pride and identity in our young people, helping them to appreciate and uphold their heritage..
- I will develop and provide educational resources on the website, covering various aspects of life skills, career guidance, and personal development. These resources will be aimed at equipping young people with the tools they need to succeed in today's world.
